The procurement and installation of the latest technology specialized constant humidity control system by ANDRIANOS at the "Gaia" winery cellar has been successfully completed. The cellar now maintains the desired humidity levels, reducing wine evaporation by up to 70%!
The "Gaia Wines" winery was established in 1997 in the heart of its privately owned vineyard in Koutsi, Nemea, at an altitude of 550 meters. Its philosophy is to produce exceptional wines, focusing on wines with great finesse, character, balance, and elegance, with a dedicated commitment to quality.
The phenomenon of reduced wine levels during maturation inside the oak barrels in the cellar had been a concern for the winery owners. ANDRIANOS provided a solution to this problem by installing a modern, fully automated humidity control system for winery cellars.
The continuous reduction in wine levels occurs due to the dehydration of oak barrels, primarily caused by insufficient humidity levels in wine storage and aging spaces. The "angel's share," which refers to the amount of wine lost each year through evaporation from the barrel, is a permanent and particularly significant issue for wineries worldwide. During maturation, the wine levels decrease dramatically, leading to substantial financial losses. The wine losses from 225-liter oak barrels range from 10 to 12 liters in sweet varieties, and can reach up to 20 liters per year in dry wines, depending on the type of barrel and the humidity and temperature conditions that prevail throughout the seasons in the cellars.
With ANDRIANOS' state-of-the-art specialized humidity control system, the cellar at Gaia Winery now maintains the ideal humidity levels, reducing wine evaporation by up to 70%! The system is set to automatically activate when the humidity drops below 75% and automatically pause when it reaches 85%. (The ideal humidity range for cellars, according to international literature, is between 70% minimum and 85% maximum). Additionally, it has been configured with specific parameters via the management console to achieve the desired humidity levels gradually, with necessary work/pause timing programming (humidity percentage values), thus contributing to the long-term and efficient operation of the machines and equipment. It is 100% automated and maintains the required humidity level inside the cellar throughout the year, regardless of the external weather conditions prevailing in each season.
With this new installation, Gaia Winery in Nemea is further upgraded in quality, continuing its work of preserving its tradition and history, as well as producing high-quality wines. The reduction of wine losses from oak barrels results in significant cost savings and, consequently, a very quick return on investment! Additionally, according to international literature, it significantly improves the quality of the wine to the highest possible levels!
